Children's Multi media canvases

Good morning! Well I've been up since half past four this morning so I thought I'd update my blog whilst having a cuppa in peace. Over the weekend I did some art and craft with my two year old daughter.

We painted two small canvases that we purchased from wilko with washable paints. I then put them somewhere out of Sophia's reach so they could dry.

Next we added some PVA glue in blobs randomly on the canvas, Sophia then chose buttons, sequins, beads and flat back shapes to put on the glue.

Finally we added cut out hand shapes from shiny and corrugated card. The final result is wonderful.
I've already hung them up on the wall in our home!

This little project is perfect for those rainy days! Try experimenting with different shapes of cards such as stars, hearts, squares or if you have a cutting machine you could add numbers or the alphabet!

Happy creating!

Catch up post!

Hi all! I can't believe I neglected my blog! Let's get that fixed right now with a  "CATCH UP POST!"

Whe-hey! First things first, I've become a Clowdie. I recently joined Kit and Clowder an online colouring community where the amazing owner Alyce creates classes for everyone, beginner or a pro! These classes are jam packed full of learning info, booklets, videos discounts on images that she has worked with. I highly recommend these classes to anyone. There are no time limits on the classes once you have them they are yours forever allowing you to learn at your own pace around your life. You can upload your colourings and you will get feedback on them hints and tips on how to change something if your unhappy and she gives feedback in  her Facebook colouring group here which I recommend you join the community is friendly and helpful and quite motivating!

Now I want to to show you my first image coloured with Kit and Clowder's monthly classes (You get a choice of pencils/markers or you can buy both) These classes suit anyone really as long as you have some knowledge of colouring. July's pencils class uses "Butterfly girl" by LineArtsy which can be found on etsy.

I've coloured this image using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on Canson imagine a4 paper. The paper was a bit too smooth for these pencils though, so my blending has been limited to a few layers. Alyce recommends that you use paper with more tooth to it such as Canson Mi-Teintes which is a honeycombed grained paper that's double sided. It can be bought on Amazon uk if your from the uk like me. They do A3 and A4 roughly around £15 for a pack of 50 sheets. I suggest that you keep this paper for your better pieces after you've done some practising as it isn't cheap. I'm yet to purchase this my self due to funds, however I'm going to be using Winston and Newton's medium grain surface 160gsm A3 paper in the mean time whilst I practice.

If you like texture like me though I recommend you get hold of some Linen/hammered card that can go through your printer. I use a 260gsm zeta card I got mine from ebay. On my latest colouring (below) I have used this linen textured card. Please bare in mind as it's thick the layering does take time and I had to use a blending stump pressing down in circular motions with a lot of pressure I then had to come back in with my lightest pencil eggshell and then a white pencil to help smooth it out more. It's totally worth it though in my opinion. Just do it in short bursts if you have weaker hands/hand problems.

Mediums: Koh-I-Noor Magic pencils, Koh-I-Noor progresso pencils, Koh-I-Noor soft pastel in purple and Prisma colors for the skin these being (darkest to lightest) Chocolate, Burnt Ochre, beige sienna, peach, beige, eggshell, white

Well that wraps things up for today I hope you enjoyed viewing my work!

"Willow" AND "Melinda and Moohoo" DIGITAL STAMPs BY HANNAH LYNN

Good afternoon! Here's another digital stamp colouring from Hannah Lynn's images! This one is called "Willow" oh my word, I love her she's so pretty! I had to pick green shades as it's my favourite colour. This piece was done on my new kraft card stock (170gsm via ebay) It's so much better than the thick card I had and it hasn't jammed my printer. I have used Prismacolors Sakura gelly roll and graphik pen for highlights and stars. I guess the background is similar to a galaxy style but the next colouring you will see is a little better with that technique...

And here she is! Ta da! This gorgeous one is called "Melinda and Moohoo" I think I got the galaxy effect a bit better... ok I lied it IS better in my opinion... Again I have used prismacolors Sakura gelly roll and graphik pen (which is now broke I'm still angry about that)  for highlights and stars. In addition however I have used Caran D'Ache metallic wax crayons. I love working with those - they lay down easily and can be blended like any regular coloured pencil with solvents or a blender stick/pencil. I hope you like my latest coloured work.

"Charlene" DIGITAL STAMP by Hannah Lynn

Good afternoon (again?!) Second post I know, I'm a little behind in my blogging (2 kids slightly under the weather and a sleep deprived mummy running around after them) So now we're up to date here's my latest colouring! This is Charlene printed on to Kraft card stock I had a pack in my craft stash bought from Crafter's companion. Now it's 280gsm I think, so fairly thick and it's also temperamental with my Epson printer. Even with the setting adjusted to print at Matte it sometimes eats the card and gets it stuck.

I've ordered some 170gsm Kraft card from ebay to trail out I will let you all know how it prints and takes to being coloured on. I printed Charlene on A4 size without "being fitted" to the frame so it prints at actual size. I have used prismacolors which work really well on this card as there is a slight texture it allows more colour to be layed down and the colour just pops out which I was amazed by!

I've added in highlights using my new Derwent graphik white pen - I highly recommend this pen its perfect. I've also added in diamantés and a couple of water drop shaped cabochons after hand tearing the edges for a roughed up look. Originally I didn't intend to use the cabochons but I accidentally smudged some glue whilst sticking the finished colouring on to the white card stock and it stained blue from the prismas I had used so a cover up was needed.

I hope you like my latest colouring here's the finished piece on it's own. Thanks for stopping by!

"Kissy fish" Enchanted Faces: Mermaids, Fairies & Fantasy by Hannah Lynn.

Good afternoon! Well I forgot to add this finished colouring to my blog... Oops! This is "Kissy fish" coloured using Koh-I-noor polycolors, prismacolors, graphik pen, pentel brush pen in black for outline fixing and some diamantés for glam! I love adding in diamantés it just adds a little umph to my work. This is actually the first coloured piece I've done where I have left a whiter area in the hair for highlights. It was a little more challenging for me but I think it worked out great.
I hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by

Bohemian Fantasy: A Grayscale Coloring Book by Molly Harrison *Page one*

Good morning! So I got a new colouring book... A little bit different though, it's a grey-scale book by Molly Harrison who I may add is a superb artist. She also draws cute figures like mermaids. (I've ordered 2 of her whimsical books)

This is the first page that I have completed. Isn't she lovely! I have used Caran D'Ache metallic pencils and wax pastels. The wax pastels are so shiny and creamy! They can be blended with blending solution! How cool is that! I have used prisma colors on the skin, Koh-I-Noor polycolors and a white Sakura gelly roll.

I hope you like this piece. Thanks for stopping by!

"Sherriella" from Enchanted faces:Mermaids,Fairies & Fantasy colouring book by Hannah Lynn

Good morning! Today I'd like to show you my latest completed colouring. I'm SO proud of this particular one, it took me a total of 8 hours the skin alone took 2 hours. I decided to work with my new Koh-I-Noor poly-colours (I bought the full set - a bit risky I know) and they are beautiful to work with very close to Faber Castell in my opinion just a bit less soft in the leads.

Along side these poly-colours I used Prismacolors on the skin and lips, boy that was a challenge. It's the first time I worked with a more "Sun kissed" look. I used Peach, Salmon pink, burnt ochre, light peach, blush pink and pink (In that order) and blended with Zest it! a blending medium for coloured pencils... it's citrus...yum ! (Note: Don't eat it!)

I also used a Sakura white Gelly roll, Sakura extra fine in silver and a pentel brush pen in black to go over the pencil marks that showed up on the black.

I hope you like this colouring as much as I do.

Thanks for stopping by!
